About Porcelain Crowns

Porcelain crowns are a strong, durable, natural looking option for restoring teeth that have been damaged by decay. A crown is a cap covering that encases the entire tooth that is used when tooth structure cannot be restored with fillings or other types of restoration. Made from a specially formulated porcelain composite material, porcelain crowns can restore your damaged teeth to their original size, full function and natural beauty. Porcelain crowns are more durable than other types of crowns so it can actually strengthen the tooth.

Setting a Porcelain Crown

A porcelain crown procedure requires two appointments. Your first appointment will include taking impressions and creating molds that will be used to make your custom crown. In your first appointment, your dentist will prepare your tooth by numbing and removing any decay as well as creating and placing a temporary crown on your tooth until your new crown is fabricated by a dental laboratory. Your temporary crown will be carefully placed to assure your bite and spacing are correct.
